Vocabulary

Booking has about a dozen words in it, and on SportsCore each one means exactly one thing — this is the page that says what. Every booking screen, every set of terms an organizer shows you, and every rule the platform applies uses these words in this sense and no other.

The words

Class — something that runs more than once: Tuesday yoga, the Thursday beginners' hour, open gym. The class holds the settings that apply to all of its sessions.

Session — one dated occurrence of a class, with its own capacity and its own roster. You book sessions, not classes: the class is the pattern, the session is the one you turn up to. (A course that runs as a block is the exception — you sign up once, for the block.)

Booking — a claimed spot at one session, on a payment form: a card, a punch card, or a membership. One person, one session, one spot.

Commitment point — the moment a booking becomes final. Before it you can release your spot and owe nothing. After it the spot is yours either way, and a no-show is charged exactly as if you had attended. The organizer chooses how far ahead of the session the commitment point falls, and may set none at all — then nothing is ever final and you can release a spot right up to the door.

Grace — a short window after you make a booking during which you can undo it, whatever the commitment point says. It exists for the booking you made by mistake, including one made after the commitment point had already passed. Checking in at the door ends your grace: once you are in the room the spot has been used.

Check-in — attendance recorded at the door. It is what turns a booked spot into an attended one, and it is the one thing that ends grace early.

Punch card — a bundle of sessions bought up front. Booking a session it covers draws one punch; releasing that booking before the commitment point puts the punch back.

Membership — an ongoing plan with an organizer. Depending on what that organizer set up, it can cover sessions outright or get you a member price on them.

Drop-in — paying for a single session with a card, rather than out of a punch card or a membership. The drop-in price is the standing price of one session.

Early bird — a cheaper rate for booking far enough ahead. The organizer sets both the rate and how far ahead "far enough" is; book later than that and you pay the standing price.

Settlement — the moment after a session has begun when the money is drawn: attendance is final, committed no-shows are charged, and punches and membership credits are used up. It runs a set number of minutes after the session starts rather than at the stroke of the hour, so that someone who walked in three minutes late is counted as being there.

Good habits

Read the commitment point and the grace together — between them they answer the only question that matters when plans change: until when is this free to undo?
When an organizer's own house rules use one of these words, they mean it in this sense. If something you are handed uses a word that is not on this page, it is the organizer's word rather than the platform's.

Did you know? Every word here has a setting behind it, which is why the terms shown on a class page are generated from that class's settings instead of written by hand. There is no free-text box anywhere in them — an organizer cannot type a promise the platform would not keep.
